The Spirit of Prayer

One may not get into the spirit of prayer the minute he goes to prayer, or the second he falls upon his knees. It may take a little while to get into the spirit of prayer, to get in touch with the forces of the skies.

Sometimes when we build a fire there is just a coal or a small chunk of ember. What do we do? We shave some fine kindling; place them upon the coals; then blow lightly until a small blaze leaps up. Then we put on some more kindling; then we put on the fuel, and soon there is a roaring fire, and the room is comfortably warm.

Often times when we've gone to prayer, we were dry, and the devil did his best to keep us dry, but we had gone to prayer, and meant to pray clear through before we quit. We weren't in a hurry. We had plenty of time for prayer. We would read (some Psalms and portions of the Gospel or perhaps the Letters,...). We'd testify to His goodness, meditate, reflect, sing a hymn, pray awhile, praise Him, and keep this up.

Don't quit. Don't get up off our knees. Stay there until we hear from Heaven. Stay there until we get into a spirit of prayer. We get what we want, that is, we get what we pray for. If we want the spirit of prayer badly enough, and will go down on earnest, it will be our to enjoy.

-- W.J.Harney

-- Matthew 21:22
If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.

Sometimes the fire of prayer starts with just a spark. When it fails to ignite right away, we give up. It's too nuch trouble, too hard. Yet the greatest, must productive times of prayer are the result of blowing lightly on the spark and waiting. And then adding a bit of fuel and waiting. Don't be impatient. The best times we've missed in prayer have been the times we got up and walked too soon.

Today, don't get up too soon. Pray until we know we're finished.

-- Nick Harrison

-- Luke 18:1
Then Jesus told His disciples a parable to show them that
they should always pray and not give up.

-- Psalms 86:3
Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I call to You all day long.

The spirit of prayer is the spirit of the new man. The language of prayer is the distinct utterance of the new life. The moment of the spiritual babe is born into the new creation, it sends up its cry of dependence and of trust toward the Source of its birth.

Who would dare to hush or to hinder that cry? Let the babe be gently satisfied and encouraged, not ignorantly hindered or rudely silenced. The very cry which ignorance would seek to stifle, falls like sweetest music on the parent's ear. It is the proof of life.

-- C.H.Mackintosh

-- Colossians 4:2
Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

At our new birth, we were given prayer as a gift. It's espressly for the children of God. Right now, because we belong to God and have His life in us, we have the words to pray mighty prayers. If it seems difficult to pray, just look to God and speak our heart.

The words will come. God has planted them there.

-- Nick Harrison

-- Romans 12:12
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

"Call Him Father and Ask"

Through out our lives
When darkness
Falls all around.

Confusion sets
In and brings our
World, tumbling down.

Call for help
From above,

Call Him Father
And ask -
For His love.

Call Him Father
And ask for
What you need.

Call Him Father
And no longer
Will your emotions
Bleed.

It is written
In His Words.

Call Him Father
And ask -
If you want to be
Heard.

Call out to God
And He will
Reply.

Call Him Father
And ask.

His love will
never deny.

Call Him Father
And ask
For what your
Heart desires.

Call Him Father
And His blessings
Will rain down
In refreshing
Showers.

Call Him Father
And ask
When you are in
Doubt.

Finally learn
What His love
Is all about.

Just Call Him Father.
And Pray.

-- Weave

-- Luke 11:1-2
1 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When He finished, one of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples." 2 He said to them, "When you pray, say: "'Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come..."

"PRAYER IS THE SOUL’S SINCERE DESIRE"

Prayer is the soul’s sincere desire,
Unuttered or expressed;
The motion of a hidden fire
That trembles in the breast.

Prayer is the burden of a sigh,
The falling of a tear
The upward glancing of an eye,
When none but God is near.

Prayer is the simplest form of speech
That infant lips can try;
Prayer, the sublimest strains
That reach The Majesty on high.

Prayer is the Christian’s vital breath,
The Christian’s native air,
His watchword at the gates of death;
He enters Heav’n with prayer.

Prayer is the contrite sinner’s voice,
Returning from his ways,
While angels in their songs rejoice
And cry, “Behold, he prays!”

The saints in prayer appear as one
In word, in deed, and mind,
While with the Father and the Son
Sweet fellowship they find.

No prayer is made by man alone
The Holy Spirit pleads,
And Jesus, on th’eternal throne,
For sinners intercedes.

O Thou by Whom we come to God,
The Life, the Truth, the Way,
The path of prayer Thyself hast trod:
Lord, teach us how to pray.

-- James Montgomery

-- Matthew 6:9-13
9 This, then, is how you should Pray: "+ Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. + 10 Your kingdom come. + Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. + 11 Give us this day our daily bread. + 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. + 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. + For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."

A.C.T.S -- (The ACTS of Prayer):

A= Adoration; C= Confession; T= Thanksgiving; S= Supplication

-- John 17:20-23
20 "My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in Me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as You are in Me and I am in You. May they also be in Us so that the world may believe that You have sent Me. 22 I have given them the glory that You gave Me, that they may be one as We are One: 23 I in them and You in Me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that You sent Me and have loved them even as You have loved Me.

-- Matthew 18:19-20
19 Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.

-- Philippians 4:6-7
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

-- Jude 1:20-21
20 But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. 21 Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

-- Romans 8:26-28
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. 27 And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.

+ 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.

-- Ephesians 3:14-19
14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height -- 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

-- Ephesians 6:18-19
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the Gospel.

-- James 5:15
And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well;
the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.

-- 1 John 5:14-15
14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

-- 2 Chronicles 7:14-15
14 If my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 15 Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.

-- Jeremiah 29:11-13
11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart."

-- Jeremiah 33:3
Call to Me and I will answer you
and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.

-- Daniel 9:4
And I prayed to the LORD my God, and made confession, and said, "O Lord, great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and mercy with those who love Him, and with those who keep His commandments,..."

-- Psalms 17:6
I call on you, O God, for you will answer me;
give ear to me and hear my prayer.

-- Psalms 42:8
By day the LORD directs His love, at night His song is with me --
a prayer to the God of my life.

-- Psalms 65:2
O You who hear prayer, To You all flesh will come.

-- Psalms 69:13
But as for me, my prayer is to You, O LORD, in the acceptable time; O God, in the multitude of Your mercy, Hear me in the truth of Your salvation.

-- Psalms 86:1-12
+ 1 Hear, O LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. 2 Guard my life, for I am devoted to You. You are my God; Save Your servant who trusts in You. 3 Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I call to You all day long. 4 Bring joy to Your servant, for to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.

+ 5 You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to You. 6 Hear my prayer, O LORD; listen to my cry for mercy. 7 In the day of my trouble I will call to You, for You will answer me.

+ 8 Among the gods there is none like You, O Lord; no deeds can compare with Yours. 9 All the nations You have made will come and worship before You, O Lord; they will bring glory to Your name. 10 For You are great and do marvelous deeds; You alone are God.

+ 11 Teach me Your way, O LORD, and I will walk in Your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear Your name. 12 I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify Your name forever.
