National Day of Prayer 2010: Thurday May 6.

A.C.T.S: The ACTS of Prayer

Stand for the "ACTS" of the Apostles, with each letter representing a different aspect of Prayer:

A: Adoration (Praise & Worship God)
C: Confession (& Repentance)
T: Thanksgiving
S: Supplication (Asking for things in Prayer).

-- Hebrews 4:16
Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

"A" is for Adoration

Adoration
This is a time to remember who God is.

Praise Him:
for His Love,
for His Power,
for His Majesty, ...
and for His Wonderful gift of Jesus Christ.

Hum a Hymn
You may like to sing a chorus like "Majesty" or a traditional hymn like "How Great Thou Art" or "A Mighty Fortress is Our God."

This will help you to worship God as you start your time of Prayer. It helps you to remember God's greatness and your own dependence on Him.

Music
You may try playing a track of Christian music from a CD or Cassette.

Using a Hymn book
At the beginning of your time of Prayer, try Praying one hymn a day from the Praise or Worship section of a hymn book.

Some Psalms of worship
Turn to a Psalm to help your spirit as a means to start praising God. Try one of these each day, for a month.

Psalms #:
19; 23; 29; 33; 34; 47; 50; 63, 76; 87; 91; 93; 95; 96; 97, 98, 99; 100; 103, 104; 107; 111; 115; 117; 121; 134; 139; 145; 146; 147; 148; 150.

-- Psalms 33:1-5
1 Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is beautiful. 2 Praise the LORD with the harp; Make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings. 3 Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy. 4 For the word of the LORD is right, And all His work is done in truth. 5 He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.

"C" is for Confessing Sin & Repentance

Confessing sin to God & Repentance:

It's not as if you are telling God anything He does not already know when you admid to Him your sins. But it does show that you are sorry for them and that you really do want His forgiveness and are determined (with His help) not to keep on repeating the same old sins, day after day.

This time of owning up to your sin is a time to be honest and humble.

God never stops loving you, no matter how sinful you have been. Be reassured about this. Read Luke 15:11-32 and focus on the love of the father in this story of the prodigal son.

-- Luke 15:7, 21, 32
+ 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
+ 21 His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son." ++ 32 "We had to celebrate this happy day. For your brother was dead and has come back to life! He was lost, but now he is found!"

+ Remember: God loves you like that. +

There is only one way to be righteous in God's sight, and that is to confess our sin to Him and to accept as a gift the righteousness of Jesus.

God's assures us that He will forgive us:

-- 1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Confess your sin before you Pray for others:
The order in which you Pray is not important. We move constantly between Adoration, Confession, Thankgiving and Supplication. But if we want God to hear and answer our Prayers we need to confess and let go of our own sin.

A wonderful promise:
Buried deep in the Old Testament is this wonderful promise that if we confess our sin to God, He will listen to and answer our Prayers.

-- 2 Chronicles 7:14-16
+14 If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and Pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
+15 Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to Prayer made in this place. 16 For now I have chosen and sanctified this house, that My name may be there forever; and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually.

-- Isaiah 1:18
Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool."

LORD JESUS CHRIST, SON OF GOD,
HAVE MERCY ON ME, A SINNER.

(For many centuries, Christians have used this Prayer as a basis for their Praying and daily living. ... ** Luke 18:13 )

"T" is for Thanksgiving

"S" is for Supplication

Supplication:
This is the time to make specific requests in Prayer, both for others and for yourself.

TALKING TO PEOPLE ABOUT GOD IS A GREAT PRIVILEGE.
BUT TALKING TO GOD FOR PEOPLE IS GREATER STILL.

Supplication Prayer Topics from the Bible:

1- Pray for Everything :

-- Philippians 4:6-7:
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by Prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

////////////////////////

2- Pray for the Sick (trouble,... ) :

-- James 5:13-16:
13 Is any one of you in trouble? He should Pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. + 14 Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to Pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the Prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and Pray for each other so that you may be healed. The Prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

////////////////////////

3- Pray for Rulers & Leaders (& Election):

-- 1 Timothy 2:1-5
1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, Prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone - 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. ++ 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 Who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

////////////////////////

4. Pray for More Christian Workers:

-- Matthew 9:35-38
35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. ++ 37 Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field."

-- Luke 10:1-2
1 After this the Lord appointed seventy(-two) others and sent them two by two ahead of Him to every town and place where He was about to go. 2 He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field."

////////////////////////

5. Pray for Yourself:

-- Jude 1:20
But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith
and Pray in the Holy Spirit.

-- Matthew 26:41 (Mark 14:38)
"Watch and Pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak."

-- 1 Chronicles 4:10
10 Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, "Oh, that You would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let Your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain." And God granted his request.

-- Psalm 106:4-5
4 Remember me, O LORD, when You show favor to Your people, come to my aid when You save them, 5 that I may enjoy the prosperity of Your chosen ones, that I may share in the joy of Your nation and join Your inheritance in giving praise.

-- Psalms 27:4
One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek Him in His temple.

////////////////////////

6. Pray for Evangelism:
Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8; Ephesians 6:18-20; Colossians 4:2-4; 2 Thessalonians 3:1; Philemon 1:4-7; Romans 10:13-15; ...

-- Matthew 28:19-20
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

-- Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

7. Pray for God's people:

How to Pray for Other Christians

+ Colossians 1:1-14 +

How many people in your life could be touched if you Prayed in this way?

1. Be thankful for their faith and changed lives (Col. 1:3).
2. Ask God to help them know what He wants them to do (1:9).
3. Ask God to give them deep spiritual understanding (1:9).
4. Ask God to help them live for Him (1:10).
5. Ask God to give them more knowledge of Himself (1:10).
6. Ask God to give them strength for endurance (1:11).
7. Ask God to fill them with joy, strength, and thankfulness (1:11).

8. Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help us (Jude 1:20; Ephesians 6:18; ... ).

-- Ephesians 6:18
And Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of Prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on Praying for all believers..

-- Colossians 1:1-14
+ 1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, 2 To the holy and faithful brothers in Christ at Colosse: Grace and peace to you from God our Father.
+ 3 We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we Pray for you, 4 because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints.
+ 5 The faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the Gospel 6 that has come to you. All over the world this Gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God's grace in all its truth. 7 You learned it from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf, 8 and who also told us of your love in the Spirit.
+ 9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped Praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.
+ 10 And we Pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.
+ 13 For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Pray through your day

Go through your day in Prayer asking for God's special help over the worrisome things or anything that you are dreading.

Does God always answer our requests?
God always gives an answer - But it may be
"Yes," or "No," or "Wait," or "I have a Better Way."

-- Matthew 7:7
Ask and it will be given to you; Seek and you will find; Knock and the door will be opened to you.

-- Ezra 8:23
So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and He answered our Prayer.

-- Psalms 17:6
I call on You, O God, for You will answer me;
Give ear to me and hear my Prayer.

-- Psalms 69:13
But I Pray to You, O LORD, in the time of Your favor; in Your great love, O God, answer me with Your sure salvation.

"... I set apart this day for secret fasting and Prayer, to entreat God to direct and bless me with regard to the great work I have in view, of preaching the gospel. Just last night the Lord visited me marvelously in Prayer: I think my soul never was in such an agony before. I felt no restraint; for the treasures of divine grace were opened before me.

I wrestled for absent friends, for the ingathering of souls, and for the children of God in many distant places. I was in such agony, from sun half an hour high, till near dark, that I was all over wet with sweat. Oh, my dear Jesus did sweat blood for poor souls! I longed for more compassion towards them. ...."

Bible for the ACTS of Prayer

Adoration

-- Psalms 103:1-5
1 Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name. 2 Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: 3 Who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, 4 Who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, 5 Who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

-- Psalms 106:1
Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His love endures forever.

-- Psalms 111
1 Hallelujah! I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart in the company of decent people and in the congregation. 2 The LORD’S deeds are spectacular. They should be studied by all who enjoy them. 3 His work is glorious and majestic. His righteousness continues forever. 4 He has made His miracles unforgettable. The LORD is merciful and compassionate. 5 He provides food for those who fear Him. He always remembers His promise. 6 He has revealed the power of His works to His people by giving them the lands of other nations as an inheritance. 7 His works are done with truth and justice. All His guiding principles are trustworthy. 8 They last forever and ever. They are carried out with truth and decency. 9 He has sent salvation to His people. He has ordered that His promise should continue forever. His name is holy and terrifying. 10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. Good sense is shown by everyone who follows God’s guiding principles. His praise continues forever.

-- Psalms 117:1-2
1 Praise the LORD, all you nations; extol Him, all you peoples. 2 For great is His love toward us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD.

-- Psalms 146:1-2
1 Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul. 2 I will praise the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.

-- 1 Peter 1:3-5
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade -- kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

-- Revelation 4:11
You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they were created and have their being.

Confession

-- Mark 1:5 (Matthew 3:5-6)
All of Judea, including all the people of Jerusalem, went out to see and hear John. And when they confessed their sins, he baptized them in the Jordan River.

-- Matthew 4:17
From that time on Jesus began to preach,
"Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."

-- Luke 5:31-32
31 Jesus answered them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

-- Luke 24:46-47
46 He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem."

-- Acts 3:19
Now repent of your sins and turn to God,
so that your sins may be wiped away.

-- 1 John 1:5-10
5 This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.

8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar and His Word has no place in our lives.

-- Psalms 130:2-3
2 O Lord, hear my voice. Let Your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. 3 If You, O LORD, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand?

-- Psalms 32:1-7
1 Blessed are those whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. 2 Blessed is the man whose sin the LORD does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit.

3 When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. 4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. ++ 5 Then I acknowledged my sin to You and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD" -- and you forgave the guilt of my sin."

6 Therefore let everyone who is godly Pray to You while You may be found; surely when the mighty waters rise, they will not reach him. 7 You are my hiding place; You will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.

-- Proverbs 28:13-14
13 He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy. 14 Blessed is the man who always fears the LORD, but he who hardens his heart falls into trouble.

Thanksgiving

+ 1. Before you start thinking about what you are going to Pray for, spend some moments in giving thanks to God: (1Thes.5:16-18; Ps.28:7; 100:1-5; ... ):

-- 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18:
- 16 Be joyful always; 17 Pray continually; + 18 Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

////////////////////////

2. Thank God for His forgiveness:

-- Romans 4:7-8
7 Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. 8 Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him. (Psalm 32:1,2)

-- Psalms 32:5-6
5 Then I acknowledged my sin to You and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD" -- and You forgave the guilt of my sin. 6 Therefore let everyone who is godly Pray to You while You may be found; surely when the mighty waters rise, they will not reach him.

////////////////////////

3. Why and when we are to Give Thanks to God:

-- 2 Corinthians 2:14
But I thank God, who always leads us in victory because of Christ. Wherever we go, God uses us to make clear what it means to know Christ. It’s like a fragrance that fills the air.

-- 2 Corinthians 9:15 (For the gift of Jesus.)
Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!

-- Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death,
but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

-- Psalm 95:2

1 Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His love endures forever.
8 Let them give thanks to the LORD for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for men.

-- Psalm 136:1
Because God is good. Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good.

////////////////////////

4. Thanks for deliverance from sin's grip:

-- Romans 6:14
For sin shall not be your master,
because you are not under law, but under grace.

-- Romans 7:21-25
21 So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. 24 Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? ++ 25 Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.

-- Romans 8:1-2
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

////////////////////////

5. Thanks for all of God's good gifts and grace:

-- John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

-- Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

-- Ephesians 2:8-10
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

-- Ephesians 3:7
I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God‘s grace given me through the working of His power.

-- 1 Timothy 4:4-5
4 For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5 because it is consecrated by the word of God and Prayer.

-- James 1:17-18
17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18 He chose to give us birth through the Word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all He created.

-- Ecclesiastes 5:18-20
18 At last I have seen what is good and beautiful: It is to eat and drink and to enjoy the good in all our hard work under the sun during the brief lives God gives us. That is our lot in life. 19 It is a gift from God when God gives some people wealth and possessions, the power to enjoy them, the ability to accept their lot in life, and the ability to rejoice in their own hard work. 20 These people won’t give much thought to their brief lives because God keeps them occupied with the joy in their hearts.

////////////////////////

6. Thanks for the defeat of death and sin:

-- 1 Corinthians 15:57
But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

-- Romans 8:2
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

////////////////////////

7. Give thanks continually:

-- 1 Thessalonians 2:13
And we also thank God continually because, when you received the Word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the Word of God, which is at work in you who believe.

-- 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
16 Be joyful always; 17 Pray continually; 18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

-- Hebrews 13:15
Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise -- the fruit of lips that confess His name.

Supplication

5. Pray for Evangelism:
Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8; Ephesians 6:18-20; Colossians 4:2-4; 2 Thessalonians 3:1; Philemon 1:4-7; Romans 10:13-15; ...

-- Ephesians 6:18-20
18 And Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of Prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on Praying for all the saints. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

-- Colossians 4:2-4
2 Devote yourselves to Prayer, being watchful and thankful. 3 And Pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. 4 Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.

-- 2 Thessalonians 3:1
Finally, brothers, Pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you.

-- Philemon 1:4-7
4 I always thank my God as I remember you in my Prayers, 5 because I hear about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints. ++ 6 I Pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ. 7 Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the saints.

-- Romans 10:13-15
13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Joel 2:32) 14 How, then, can they call on the One they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the One of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring Good News!" (Isaiah 52:7)

-- Psalms 27:13-14
13 I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. 14 Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.

-- Psalms 130:5-6
5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in His Word I put my hope. 6 My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.

-- 2 Corinthians 13:14
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Prayer - Quotes:

Don't Pray when you feel like it. Have an appointment with the Lord and keep it. -- Corrie Ten Boom

Prayer is asking for the rain and faith is carrying the umbrella. ~ Anonymous

If we would talk less and pray more about them, things would be better than they are in the world: at least, we should be better enabled to bear them. ~ J.Owen

If the spiritual life be healthy, under the full power of the Holy Spirit, praying without ceasing will be natural. ~ A.Murray

It is necessary to rouse the heart to pray, otherwise it will become quite dry. The attributes of prayer must be: love of God, sincerity, and simplicity. ~ J.Kronstadt

He who has learned to pray has learned the greatest secret of a holy and happy life. ~ W.Law

Cease to pray and thou will begin to sin. Prayer is not only a means to prevail for mercy but also to prevent sin. ~ W.Gurnall

You can use your time to no better advantage than to pray whenever you have a moment, either alone, or with others, while at work, at rest, or walking down the street! Anywhere!! ~ O.K.O.Hallesby

The reason why many fail in spiritual battle is because they wait until the hour of battle. The reason why others succeed is because they have gained their victory on their knees long before the battle came...Anticipate your spiritual battles; fight them on your knees before temptation comes, and you will always have victory. ~ R. A. Torrey

The greatest privilege God gives to you is the freedom to approach Him at any time. You are not only authorized to speak to Him; you are invited. You are not only permitted; you are expected. God waits for you to communicate with Him. You have instant, direct access to God. God loves mankind so much, and in a very special sense His children, that He has made Himself available to you at all times. ~ W.L.Duewel

Satan cannot deny but that great wonders have been wrought by prayer. As the spirit of prayer goes up, so his kingdom goes down. Satan's strategems against prayer are three. First, if he can, he will keep thee from prayer. If that be not feasible, secondly, he will strive to interrupt thee in prayer. And, thirdly, if that plot takes not, he will labour to hinder the success of thy prayer. ~ W.Gurnall

The right way to pray is to stretch out our hands and ask of One who we know has the heart of a Father. ~ D.Bonhoeffer

Great grief prays with great earnestness. Prayer is not a collection of balanced phrases; it is the pouring out of the soul. What is love if it be not fiery? What are prayers if the heart be not ablaze? They are the battles of the soul. In them men wrestle with principalities and powers...The prayer that prevails is not the work of lips and fingertips. It is the cry of a broken heart and the travail of a stricken soul. ~ S.Chadwick

I cannot pray any more. As soon as I begin, my prayers are all turned into hallelujahs. I would have esteemed it a privilege if God had permitted me to spend my remaining days in supplications for my friends; but as soon as I open my mouth, it is all glory, glory, glory! ~ Anonymous Christian, at a very old age, on deathbed

Men may spurn our appeals, reject our message, oppose our arguments, despise our persons; but they are helpless against our prayers . ~ J.S.Baxter

Naturally, in striving for a time to pray, there will be arguments concerning our mission, duty, and responsibility. Some people will consider such devotion to prayer as neglecting our mission, forsaking our duty, and impairing our responsibility. The enemy will use such matters as duty and mission to create his best arguments for stopping our prayer. ~ Anonymous

It is not the mouth that is the main thing to be looked at in prayer, but whether the heart is so full of affection and earnestness in prayer with God, that it is impossible to express their sense and desire; for then a man desires indeed, when his desires are so strong, many, and mighty, that all the words, tears, and groans that can come from the heart, cannot utter them. ~ J.Bunyan

When thou prayest, rather let thy heart be without words
than thy words without heart. ~ J.Bunyan
